Celebrating over 18 years of Vinyl Vandals... We Are Raya illustration

To celebrate over 18 years of Vinyl Vandals and mark the year our apparel would fall into dormancy, it was only right that we found a way to transcend through the memories of time...

It was a pleasure to collaborate with We Are Raya to create a Vinyl Vandals masterpiece that brings many memories in one banging illustration.

The music, vinyl, and fashion culture allowed the creative souls affiliated with the Vv brand to touch many.

From feeling the bass and groove or the many experiences with the Vv collective would always be a snapshot moment, remembered by a smile.

Acknowledging Vv clothing on another person would always bring a warm feeling, knowing the connection was pure and esoteric.

From the Yellow Vv business cards, Huddersfield Carnival Tent in the park, Vv Smart Car, Brown paper bags, The bedroom sessions in Manchester, Southport Weekend 46 chalet party, The famous Yorkshire Vv Cow, Customised T-shirt printing & countless one-off designs, DJ sets far & wide, Record boxes, Vinyl & Turntables, Nike Vandals & more, we hope you all remember the moments that built Vv into the brand it is today!

Thank you to the ladies at We Are Raya for bringing these memories back to life - follow we are Raya here

What VINYL RELEASE is top of your list??? Record Store Day 2019

rsd-logo-black-web-ls-1.jpg
Record Store Day 2019 will take place on Saturday 13th April 2019.
Phonica Records London…

Phonica Records London…

Record Store Day is the one day of the year when over 200 independent record shops all across the UK come together to celebrate their unique culture. Special vinyl releases are made exclusively for the day and many shops and cities host artist performances and events to mark the occasion.

Thousands more shops celebrate the day around the globe in what’s become one of the biggest annual events on the music calendar.  We are excited about releases from AtJazz, Anderson Pak, Louie Vega, Dj Pierre, Roy Ayers, Prodigy, Alex Arnout and many more!

The full list of RSD 2019 releases are available here.

Helping independent stores

So, Record Store Day isn’t perfect, and yet it seems that it does generally help those little independent shops to keep afloat.

That can’t be a bad thing, not only for those of us who love flicking through racks and selecting purchases, but also for our diminishing high streets and the music industry in general.

Get yourself down to your local independent record shops and grab some WAX – and then do the same at regular intervals all year around, so that the UK music sector keeps thriving!

Phonica Records - London & Piccadilly Records - Manchester are personal favourites of mine!

You can find you nearest participating record store here

Dr Pete Dale, Senior Lecturer in Music, and a self-confessed vinyl junkie said...

“Vinyl's analogue is different”

There is no aural benefit to be had from listening to a CD compared with a soundfile on your computer, smartphone or iPod: you get a digitally-created sound which sounds continuous but which is actually made up of tiny little bits of sound so small that your ear can’t directly notice the gaps.

Vinyl, however, actually does give you analogue (that is, continuous) sound: whether or not you prefer vinyl records to the digital sound of CDs and computerised soundfiles, there is no question that the sound is different.

The analogue sound of a vinyl record has a ‘warmth’ which arrives not only from the analogue sound but also from the frequency range which the sound reproduction can allow. It is also possible to enjoy the ‘surface noise’ which vinyl produces, as indeed John Peel once claimed to do.

Nat WENDELL - Theoretics EP (Vinyl release out NOW!)

Available to purchase here: Juno: https://goo.gl/w8gvcL | Deejay (de): https://goo.gl/A2r7Mv | Redeye: https://goo.gl/hVwXVd | Picadilly Records: https://goo.gl/Mc4y75 I've never heard Nat Wendell play, but if he plays records like he makes tracks he must be one-of-a-kind. Theoretics leads off with "The Way (Part 2)," which approaches something like the apotheosis or platonic ideal of a type of Deep '90s banger that DJs covet, fans adore and charitably few producers can create. This is a commanding track - from Point A to Point B takes everyone on a journey in the most classic, least clichéd sense of the word. Serious heat! Theoretics leads the B-side with some serious jackin' beats, dubbed out vocals and trippy chords that lurk right up underneath the surface. Replace the hats with some wicked snares and an uplifting little melody for "Re- lease Your Soul." This is unapologetic fodder for the dancefloor, and it's pleasing to see records like this getting circulated again.

Theoretics, the theoretical part of a science or an art. Hugely inspired by early house & garage, Berlin based Nat Wendell serves up 3 raw-emotive, straight to the point house joints to launch his new imprint; Depth of My Soul - which is his art in physical form.

With swinging snares and it's subby bass; "The Way (Part 2)" is an energetic, club ready track with a driving kick & consistent lead that's progresses as the track builds. Theoretics kicks off the B-side and delves deeper whilst still maintaining its dancefloor-ready appeal.

The subtle euphoric vocal samples & prominent chords give you something to hold onto, whilst the rhythm keeps you moving. Providing you with a more soulful offering, "Release Your Soul" is reminiscent of a classic 96' style house track, with all the right elements to match. Snappy snares, smooth chords and a warm baseline.

Theoretics EP is a groove and feeling that has been missing in underground house Music scene. Fully taking me back to 1995 and I will be fully supporting Vv&out - Chino Vv
